Managing Coronavirus at Grenville House

On the 13th May 2020 the Government in England announced that providers of outdoor activities could re-open again if they felt they could do in a safe manner.

Following the appropriate risk assessments and implementation of revised procedures we are now open for business. We are offering a range of activities on a non-resident basis adapted to ensure that we can best protect our clients and the staff team.

The best place to social distance

The UK Government advice is that the safest place to exercise and socialise is outside. Our philosophy has always been to get people outside and exercising so we are perfectly set up for the new normal that we all face.

Since the start of lockdown our we have been constantly monitoring advice from the Government and National Governing Bodies to ensure that we can provide a safe, Covid-secure outdoor activity centre.

The experience of a visit to Grenville House will be slightly different to usual so please see the main changes below.

Before your visit

Bookings and payment will be electronic as we try to minimise the handling of documents and cash. The booking procedure will be via email. It will include a self-declaration confirming that all participants have not displayed any Covid-19 symptoms in the past 14 days leading up to your visit to the Centre.

On arrival at Grenville House Outdoor Education Centre you will need to confirm that the self-declaration is still valid. We might also include a temperature test if we are at all concerned for your well-being and other centre users’ safety.

By including this, we hope to significantly reduce the possibility of Covid-19 coming into contact with our staff, equipment and other customers. We ask that you come as prepared as possible, especially in clothing that can be worn under our specialist water sports attire to reduce the requirement to change in a changing room.

Upon arrival

1. You will need to wash your hands.

2. You will be met outside for a briefing from your instructor who will highlight the key changes that we have made around the centre.

3. The size of the group will be in-line with the government’s restrictions and where applicable, as advised by National Governing Bodies for the activity you are participating in.

Where necessary you will also have to socially distance from members outside of your household including the Instructor(s). The minimum 1 metre plus social distance rule must be adhered to, throughout your visit to the centre.

The instructor will be coaching and demonstrating all skills and games that are normally included the activity session. This is not really very different from our usual approach, but you will notice that the instructor will be less hands on in their approach and therefore there is an emphasis and need for clear two-way communication during instruction and we ask participants to respect the instructor during this time.

Additional Safety measures

The Instructional team have completed training in our revised procedures and all related safety measures combined with social distancing. Risk Assessment and safe working practices are being monitored and reviewed as and when any developments occur.

We are washing, sterilising and quarantining the equipment that you will use to ensure that it is safe and clean for your visit. We have increased the cleaning regime around the centre with a focus of regular cleaning of touch surfaces. We have introduced new activity protocols and rescue protocols and are actively involved with the development of guidance with the NGB's that govern our activities.

Private & Family Sessions

We are currently restricting bookings to family groups or social bubbles at a 1:6 ratio. Please email us to check availability.

Your Safety

Grenville House OEC has always strived to maintain the highest standards of safety and provision and continues to do so despite the additional considerations.

We are constantly monitoring and updating our procedures and would ask for your support and consideration whilst we endeavour to adapt.
